Thanks to the work of the mine clearance specialists in the municipality of Vistahermosa, Meta, the National Army presented two areas free of antipersonnel mines. The new beneficiaries are the inhabitants of the Campoalegre and Termales villages, who received 48,766 square meters of decontaminated land.
In the field work carried out by the Non-Technical Studies teams, the community told the mine clearance specialists that since 2016 they left their territory for fear of losing their lives and their families.
This is how, by listening to the inhabitants and intervening in dangerous areas, the soldiers of the Battalion of Engineers of Humanitarian Demining n. 4, destroyed two unexploded ordnance in the Campoalegre village and five explosive devices in Termales.
During the work, the external monitoring component AICMA-OAS, evaluated the process confirming that the results met the national standards of humanitarian demining.
