Finding of ELN War materials
The Colombian Navy, through the Pacific Naval Force, dealt a heavy blow to the ELN Western War Front, with the destruction of a camp area and the discovery of war material and military accessories in the Cupíca River, in department of Chocó.
The operation was carried out in the municipality of Riosucio, in Chocó, jointly with the Colombian Air Force and coordinated with the Technical Investigation Corps of the Prosecutor's Office, leading to the discovery of this structure with the capacity to house more than 30 people. During the search of the area, a 5.56 mm caliber colt rifle, a 9 mm caliber pistol, eleven magazines of different calipers, 1,887 cartridges of different calibers, three improvised explosive devices and military accessories alluding to the ELN were found by troops.
In the same way, the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, in the course of the urgent acts, inspected the zone, determining that it was a camp area of the GAO ELN, where, in addition to the illegal material, troops also discovered 14 double rudimentary tents and 10 single tents to house members of this illegal structure.
The camp area was destroyed under controlled conditions, in order to protect the environment. On the other hand, war material and military accessories were put into custody of to the CTI of the Prosecutor's Office.
This operations directly hits the criminal operations of the ELN in the department of Chocó, since the supply lines and connections with the routes used in the Pacific Coast for drug trafficking are closed. It is a sign of the institutional commitment to provide favorable security conditions for all the communities settled in this region of the country, framing all operations in the protection of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.
