This Tuesday, at the National Direction of the Anti-Narcotics Police, the Secretary of State of the United States, Mike Pompeo, expressed his country's full support for the efforts of the Government of President Iván Duque in the fight against the world problem of drugs.
"We are very grateful for the alliance of the United States and the National Police of Colombia, including those who directly work on the eradication in the fields, aviators and commandoes," said the Secretary of State, recalling the risks faced by members of the Security forces in this purpose and he also highlighted their courage.
He in the same way highlighted the progress in the fight against drug trafficking in 2019 and said that "we are sure that in 2020 and in the coming years we will do it better and the flow of these dangerous materials will be contained by the eradication and interdiction work".
Precisely, the Minister of Defense, Holmes Trujillo, highlighted that during the Government of President Iván Duque, in November 2019, there were 150 eradication groups, before there were 23, it is the highest number reached in the last 10 years."
He explained that this work allows to say that "for 2018 SIMCI identified a reduction of 1.4% of illegal plantations reaching 169,018 hectares and a potential production of 1,120 MT. On the other hand, ONDCP identified a reduction of 0.48% going to 208,000 hectares and a potential production of 887 MT."
For his part, Secretary Pompeo in the same way announced that his country will implement a $ 1 million program for rehabilitation and employability of members of the Security forces injured during service.
