Soldiers of the Army Component arrived with 500 baskets of food in the Natania, Baker Hill and School House sectors of the island this weekend, it is a task carried out in coordination with the Rotary International Foundation.
In San Andrés Islas, and according to statistical data published by the Archipelago Governance, 80% of people live from tourism, a panorama that has been seriously hit by the Covid-19 health emergency and the measures that have been taken to prevent the spread of the virus.
This is why the National Army, through the operations of Defense Support to the Civil Authority (ADAC), arrived with aid represented in food baskets, which contain basic products of the family basket.
More than 50 soldiers reached vulnerable sectors of the island and 500 families benefited of the distribution activity this weekend. The food baskets left the CATAM Military Base in Bogotá, bound for San Andrés Islas and were stored in warehouses of the San Andrés section of Rotary International, in a work carried out by the Army's Comprehensive Action and Development Support Command.
The soldiers in San Andrés remain committed to the well-being of the islanders, distributing 3,020 baskets of food in the area, thanks to the work that has been carried out with the Risk Management Unit and the Development Secretariat of the Archipelago Government. In the same way, it is important to highlight that the Military Forces have provided logistical support for the transport of more than 23 tons of aid that have reached the island.
Major Sergio Rodríguez Aparicio, commander of the Army Component, added: “Whatever it takes for our Colombians. The demanding activities we have had are worth it if in the end we are helping these families who need it, and we will continue to do so. ”
