This machinery, used for the illicit exploitation of mining deposits, would generate more than 935 million pesos per month of illicit income for the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Los Caparros.
Troops of the National Army, in military operations, within the framework of the Artemisa operation, for the protection of water, biodiversity and natural resources, in coordination with the Colombian Air Force, with the support of the National Police, the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation and in response to early warning No. 003 of 2019, destroyed three illegal mining production units, with machinery that would be valued at 2,580 million pesos.
This complex was in Aguas Prietas, Zaragoza municipality, in the department of Antioquia, where the National Army troops could achieve this result thanks to the information provided by the Civic Participation Network. Two dredges and an excavator were in the same way destroyed in the complex. Two people who worked there were caught in flagrante delicto and put into custody of the authorities for the crime of illicit exploitation of mining sites.
With this result, the environmental impact is reduced over approximately 25 hectares on the banks of the Nechí river, a zone that the environmental authorities estimate would take approximately 10 to 30 years to recover.
The military operations conducted by the National Army will continue to be carried out in the departments of Antioquia, Córdoba and Chocó, with the aim of continuing to harm the logistical and criminal structures in the region. In the same way, protection and security is guaranteed for the inhabitants and operations that terrorist groups intend to carry out are neutralized.
