This event came about thanks to the pressure exerted by the troops in the rural area of the municipality of Alto Baudó. The demobilized individuals would belong to the Resistencia Cimarrón front of the Organized Armed Group (GAO) ELN.
Troops of the National Army, in military operations deployed against crime in the department of Chocó, in response to the early warning 041 of 2019, and as a result of the pressure exerted in the pacific subregion, received two members of the GAO ELN, who surrendered voluntarily.
The operation was carried out in the sectors of Chachajo and Pie De Pató, in rural area of the municipality of Alto Baudó, Chocó, where thanks to information networks were received information about the intentions of these individuals to leave the Resistencia Cimarrón front (GAO) ELN. During the operation, the soldiers protected the lives of these people by complying with institutional policies of actions that respect human rights and international humanitarian law.
According to the authorities, alias Santiago is said to have been part of this terrorist organization for nine years, and alias Tito for seven years. These people started a process on the way to legality through the Group of Humanitarian Attention to the Demobilized, of the Ministry of Defense.
The National Army reiterates the invitation to all members of the GAO ELN to voluntarily report themselves to the military units, so they obtain the benefits provided by the National Government.
