In the framework of the Bicentenary plan Heroes Of Freedom, in a coordinated and inter-agency work with the Cauca police and the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps), and troops of the Infantry Battalion No.7 General José Hilario Lopez of the twenty-ninth Brigade, of the Third Division of the Colombian Army, captured 11 individuals that conducted activities of illicit exploitation of minerals deposits in La Laja, municipality Rosas, in the Department of Cauca.
In the military operation that captured these individuals, 11 excavation sites and four mining posts were destroyed, in addition troops found 11 industrial grinds, five engines, five industrial drills, an air generator, a submarine pump, an industrial pulley, a motor pump and an electric saw.
The operation was possible by military intelligence, which continues to reduce the environmental impact of deforestation and soil sedimentation resulting from such illegal practices that destroy the environment.
In this way, the recovery of eight hectares of mountainous area that had previously been contaminated with Mercury and chemical precursors proper to this criminal activity is achieved. It is estimated that the machinery found is valued at 750 million pesos and, due to this result, the groups outlaw no longer receive 800 million pesos product of the eight kilos of gold mined monthly; 200 million pesos entered the finances of the organized armed group, GAO, ELN, front Manuel Vasquez Castaño.
