At the Naval Cadet School Almirante Padilla was held the farewell ceremony of Admiral Evelio Ramirez Gáfaro and the recognition ceremony of Vice Admiral Gabriel Alfonso Pérez Garcés, as the new commander of the Colombian Navy.
The ceremony was presided over by the president of the Republic, Ivan Duque Marquez, accompanied by Vice President Martha Lucia Ramirez and the military commanders.
A naval protocolary formation in Cartagena Bay gave an account of the resources available to the institution to exercise its constitutional mission of defending the sovereignty and protect the maritime interests of Colombians.
With the discipline that characterizes the institution, Admiral Evelio Ramirez Gáfaro was honored. He directed the destinies of the Navy of Colombia, for about two years. For his commitment and service to the country he was awarded with decorations such as the Order of Military Merit Antonio Nariño, in category Gran Cruz, the order of the National Police in the grade Civic Star (Estrella Civica) in the category Great Officer, and the Military medal Faith in the Cause of the Colombian Air Force.
In a ceremony full of tradition, Vice Admiral Gabriel Alfonso Pérez Garcés assumed the command as Commander of the Colombian Navy and was honored as the Naval Officer of highest rank in the branch, with direct command of all the naval forces and naval components.
