Troops of the National Army, deployed in the Catatumbo region, neutralized in the rural area of the municipality of Tibú, Norte de Santander, two improvised explosive devices, that would belong to the organized armed group, GAO-Eln, and that would be triggered against civilians and Military Forces.
In the first military operation carried out in rural area of Guachiman, men belonging to the Special Energy and Roads battalion No. 6, found an area prepared with powerful explosives, with radio frequency activation system, which according to the investigations would be activated against people and troops in this sector.
Once the situation was known, the explosives and demolition Group (EXDE) activated all safety protocols to carry out the destruction of the explosive charge under controlled conditions, thus preventing collateral damage.
In parallel operations, carried out by troops of the battalion of Engineers No. 50 of construction, on the Palmeras del Mirador, Municipality of Tibu, under controlled conditions destroyed an anti-personnel mine, with system of activation by tension, that was hidden in the middle of a road that connects two nearby villages.
So far this year, this operations unit has managed to neutralize 120 explosive devices that would be used against civilians and Military Forces. It has in the same way detected and destroyed 55 launching pads.
