As a boost to the peasant economy, agroecological production and the rescue of ancestral products, the Colombian Navy in coordination with State institutions, private companies, organized civil societies and foundations of Cartagena, promoted regional integration, associativity and the exchange of flavors and cultural knowledge, carrying out the realization of the first mobile peasant market, in the Nelson Mandela neighborhood of Cartagena, Bolivar.
The opening ceremony of this peasant market was attended by the mayor of Cartagena, William Dau Chamat and military and civil authorities, giving way to three days of agricultural trade, in which crew members of the Navy Infantry Battalion No.12 constantly accompanied the community and contributed to the organizational work.
The Navy infantry mobility Battalion No.1 supported with the transportation of 40 tons of fresh produce from the rural areas of municipalities such as El Carmen de Bolívar, María la Baja, Córdoba Tetón and Villanueva; as well as the municipality of Membrillal and the Indigenous Cabildo of Bajo del Tigre. These are products include yam, cassava, banana, corn, eggplant, auyama , rice, cheese, coconut, fish, papayas, mandarins, guava, grapefruits, among others.
In the same way, the navy carried out the loading and unloading of vehicles, and the distribution of the products to the community, implementing all biosecurity protocols to prevent the possible spread of the virus COVID-19 so that products could be market to the community of the neighborhood in mention and in the surrounding areas of the city of Cartagena, who had the opportunity to buy excellent quality products at a lower price and without intermediaries, thus ensuring the economic revival of small farmers and entrepreneurs.
