The Colombian navy carried out the transport to waters bordering Jamaica, of 45 people who were in San Andrés Island since last October 21, after being surprised by naval units carrying out illegal fishing activities in Colombian waters.
The transport mission was carried out in support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migracion Colombia and the Government of San Andrés y Providencia; it was possible after coordination conducted by the foreign ministries of Colombia and Jamaica, in order to support the measure of discretionary expulsion outside the country. In this way, the operational synergy conducted by units of the San Andrés Coast Guard Station and the missile frigate ARC Antioquia was initiated, which transported the 45 fishermen to an agreed meeting point with the Jamaican Coast Guard over the Caribbean Sea, where they were handed over by a Colombian migration official to migratory authorities of the Caribbean country.
For their part, officials of Migracion Colombia conducted the administrative sanctioning processes corresponding to the 45 people, who were part of the crews of the fisher vessels M/N Provider and Tap Dog of Jamaican flag, in which the Colombian navy seized 8.075 kilograms of illegal fishing.
