The National Government, in coordination with the National Disaster Risk Management Unit, UNGRD, with the support of the military forces, provided the necessary assistance to support the emergency following the transit of Hurricane Iota through the islands of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.
The Colombian Air Force, through the military transport Air Command, CATAM, has arranged its Hercules C-130 and Cassa C-295 aircraft to carry out the rapid and timely transport of humanitarian aid in order to distribute it to the inhabitants of the islands.
Since Monday, November 16, the Air Force has received more than 80 tons of cargo consisting of Mats, food and toilet kits, tents, roof tiles, drinking water and other items required by island residents after the transit of the powerful cyclone that reached Category 5, the highest on the scale.
In an effort against the clock, the Air Force has sent its aircraft, crews, soldiers and civilian personnel to carry out efficiently and effectively the transport of these aids, keeping high the commitment to help Colombians when they need it most, bringing hope in the midst of this difficult situation.
