At the end of the first Security Council of the year, the Minister of Defense, Holmes Trujillo, said that as he announced last December 12, in the municipality of Minca, there is a reward to the citizens who provide information about criminals and murderers and drug traffickers in the region.
"During 2021, 50 operations will be carried out against organized crime in Santa Marta", announced Minister Holmes Trujillo.
He also said that for the strengthening of the Coast Guard Station of the National Navy, two additional high-speed interceptor boats will be allocate, in order to combat drug trafficking and strengthen the maritime security of the city. In total, the station will have five boats.
Besides, the Government of the department of Magdalena will distribute 23 new vehicles to strengthen the mobility of the Military Forces as well as the construction project of the Police Station of the municipality of Zona Bananera.
In addition, the Minister of Defense revealed that a special research interagency group was created with the purpose of combating homicides in Santa Marta, while anti-extortion plans still being carry out by the Military Forces and the National Police in the city and the rural area.
“In the same way, the National Police will strengthen the controls for compliance with the administrative decisions of the city of Santa Marta related to the restriction of closure of streets and alleys, as well as the control of clandestine celebrations and the prohibition of sales of liquor”, said Minister Holmes Trujillo.
Finally, and as a compromise, the Minister ordered that the National Police and the National Army shall verify the allegations for the crime of cattle raiding in the municipalities of Chibolo, Plato and Tenerife, in the department of Magdalena. It should not interfere with the deployment of the operation ODIN, which is led by the Brigadier General, Jesus Alejandro Barrera, Director of Carabiniers and Rural Security, and which continue striking drug trafficking and organized crime.
