The Colombian Navy, through units of the Caribbean Naval Force, in coordination with the General Maritime Directorate, intensifies the search operation for a ship in the waters of the Colombian Caribbean Sea.
Since the afternoon of Thursday, January 21, when the Maritime and River Traffic Control Station San José received the alert call from the boat, the General Maritime Directorate, through the Port Authority of Cartagena, began the coordination to find the ship Carmen I.
When the last location of the Bolivian boat –which sailed with 10 crew members from Panama to La Guajira– was known, in Colombian waters 60 miles (96.5 km) from Cartagena, the Maritime Authority notified all merchant ships that were in the area, in order to find the boat. This operation was replicated by the Port Authorities of the Colombian Caribbean Coast.
In the same way, the Caribbean Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research Center carried out the search pattern as a support for the search and rescue operation that is currently being conducted by the Caribbean Naval Force with ships of the Colombian Navy and aircraft of the Colombian Air Force.
All these operations have been officially notified by the General Maritime Directorate to the Navy authorities of Panama and Bolivia.
