Waving flags, to the rhythm of Cumbia and on the banks of the mighty Magdalena river, the inhabitants of Magangué, civil authorities, law enforcement and military, on Saturday, June 26, said good bye to the ARC Golfo de Morrosquillo, which began a journey of 10 days, by this major river artery, to bring well-being and health, and also to provide State services to six towns of difficult access in the Colombian Caribbean.
Those are the municipalities Pinillos, Barranco de Loba, El Peñón, Regidor, Río Viejo and La Gloria, which were prioritized to be assisted by 105 professionals and specialists from different regional and local institutions, who voluntarily complemented this sixth version of the journey: Sailing to the Heart of the Magdalena.
The ceremony of departure of the ship, which was preceded by Lieutenant Colonel Roque Gabriel Echeverri Valencia, Commander of the River Battalion of Navy Infantry No.17, took place on the main pier in front of the Cathedral Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, had the participation of the Municipal Mayor's Office, the Provincial Inspector's Office, the Ombudsman's Office, the National Police, Migracion Colombia, Icoltur, the Mutual SER, the Fundación Ser Social and the municipal Diocese, and it was enlivened by the Cardón y Bejuco group of the Institute of Culture and Tourism of Bolívar, as well as the Academy of Formative Processes of the Chico Cervantes Cultural Center.
This important initiative led by the Colombian Navy is carried out in coordination with the Government of Bolivar and the public and private sector, with the purpose of providing comprehensive wellbeing to more than 100 thousand inhabitants of the departments of Bolivar and Cesar.
During this sixth version: Navigating to the Heart of the Magdalena, health and recreation services will be provided, humanitarian aid will be distributed and yellow machinery will be used for the adaptation of vehicles roads in the priority areas. These processes will be carried out in a coordinated work with the Health Secretariats of the Government of Bolívar, Local mayors, Cajacopi, Coosalud, Mutual Ser, Professional Officers of the Naval Reserve of Barranquilla and Cartagena, the University of Sinú, the Fundación Unidos, the Colombian Family Wellbeing Institute, ICBF, the Peace Builders Foundation, the Cartagena Chamber of Commerce, National Learning Service, SENA, and the University of Cartagena.
