The Colombian Navy, in a joint operation with the National Army and inter-institutional with the Attorney General's Office, managed to arrest three individuals, accused of being the main coordinators of a criminal organization called Los Pesados, which allegedly recruited officials to let the cocaine shipments leave the Colombian Pacific.
After nine months of investigative work, troops of the Colombian Navy's Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) and the Army, in coordination with the Specialized Directorate against Criminal Organizations and the Technical Investigation Corps – CTI (Technical Investigations Corps), carried out search procedures in which arrest warrants issued by the Prosecutor's Office were realized; according to the information, these individuals would have links with the dissidents of the Farc's 30th front.
The first arrest took place in the municipality of Cocorná, Antioquia, after a raid on a house, where thanks to information provided by Colombian Navy intelligence, alias Juancho was found, accused of being the ringleader and recruiting public officials to facilitate the transit of shipments through different roads. This man would presumably be in charge of approaching and coordinating drug trafficking activities, as well as conducting criminal intelligence for the criminal organization.
Alias Sobrino, who would be the second ringleader of the criminal structure and in charge of security activities and money movements, was arrested through a raid on a house in Cali, Valle del Cauca. According to the investigations, it was possible to establish that this man resided in El Charco, Nariño, but he would have moved to this place about a week ago, where he carried out different criminal actions.
Finally, the third individual was arrested on a public road in the urban area of Tumaco, Nariño, whose finding was possible thanks to the authorities' follow-up. This man would be in charge of logistical coordination in the criminal chain of the drug trafficking network.
According to intelligence information of the Colombian Navy, these individuals would be involved in the departure of speedboats with narcotics, mainly in the municipalities of El Charco, Olaya Herrera and San Andrés de Tumaco in the Pacific region of Nariño. They in the same way coordinated with other organizations involved in drug trafficking in Buenaventura and the north of the department of Nariño to send cocaine shipments to Central America.
In the judicial process, around 230 million pesos, cell phones, a computer, USB units, simcards, documents and other important elements for the process were in the same way found.
The arrested persons were brought to the Public Prosecutor's Office, which charged the three arrested with the offences of association to commit aggravated offences; trafficking, manufacture or carrying of aggravated narcotics; illicit enrichment of private individuals; and bribery. Alias Juancho and alias Sobrino were put into prison; the other guy was sent to house arrest.
