Among those arrested is alias Leonel, who would be the ringleader of the North Caribbean group of that criminal organization.
In development of operations, in a joint, co-ordinated and inter-institutional work, the Military Forces, National Police and the Prosecutor General of the Nation, in the department of La Guajira, arrested 17 alleged members of Organised Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, structure Erlin Pine Duarte, for their alleged responsibility in the crimes of conspiracy to commit crimes, aggravated extortion and manufacture, trafficking and possession of firearms or ammunition.
The operation carried out simultaneously in the municipalities of Dibulla and Riohacha led to finding in Riohacha of nine individuals who would be members of the criminal structure, among whom is alias Leonel, accused of being the ringleader of the North Caribbean group of the GAO Clan del Golfo. Likewise, alias Chengue, alias Pilo and alias Poncho, alleged members of the organization, were arrested.
These men would be carrying out selective assassinations and extortions against merchants and members of productive groups in the region, arms trafficking, and they would be controlling drug and micro-trafficking routes in sectors such as Mingueo, La Punta de los Remedios, Palomino and Río Ancho.
These men were found by troops with small firearms, magazines, communication and computer equipment.
Defense Minister Diego Molano Aponte sent a message to members of these structures and said “either they surrender to justice or we arrest them."
In the same way, in the municipality of Dibulla, eight other individuals were arrested, who would be part of this criminal structure. Long firearms and magazines were found by troops at the scene.
