This activity focused on environmental conservation and in the same way seeks to strengthen the economy of fishermen in the sector.
As part of the Gran Sembratón activity (massive planting) carried out throughout the country by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, National Army troops supported this activity in the city of Barranquilla, in the department of Atlántico, with the planting of 3,000 Red Mangroves that will contribute to the conservation of the ecosystems of the Caribbean region of Colombia.
The activity that was carried out in the Ciénaga de Mallorquín, coordinated with the Regional Corporation of the department of Atlantico, the National Service of Learning, SENA, the company Tecnoglass, the Organization Conservation International, the Group Argos and fishing sector, led the soldiers of the Second Brigade to support the planting of these seedlings, proper to this coastal tropical ecosystems.
In addition, the activity collected solid waste that was in the sector and removes sediment, an operations that significantly contribute to the conservation of the environment as well as to strengthen the economy of the fishermen.
The planting of these Red Mangroves will help the loading and unloading of groundwater, regulating the flow at the meeting of river and marine waters, favoring erosion mitigation and coastal stabilization and protection against climatic phenomena.
