The cocaine shipment exceeds US$60 million in international illegal markets, money that will not enter the FARC dissident group Western Bloc Alfonso Cano.
101 tons of cocaine hydrochloride have been found by the Colombian Navy this year; more than 50 tons of cocaine have been found in the Pacific during 2022.
In the course of a decisive operation in the frame of the fight against drug trafficking on the Nariño coast, units of the Colombian Navy, in coordination with the Attorney General's Office, managed to find 1,788 kilograms of cocaine, at the time when four Colombians and a foreigner intended to transport it aboard two boats to Central America.
Intelligence information of the Colombian Navy and investigative work of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Prosecutor's Office, added to the permanent deployment of sea control operations carried out by Units of the Tumaco Coast Guard Station, led to the detection of the first boat named Camila, when it was traveling suspiciously, 25 nautical miles of the coast of Nariño.
Immediately, in the midst of adverse weather conditions, the Coast Guard Units began the maritime interception operation that, after several minutes of pursuit, led to the interception of the boat manned by two Colombians and a foreigner.
An hour later, a second boat named Josue, which was in the same way moving suspiciously, was detected and intercepted by another Coast Guard Unit that was conducting control and security operations in the area.
During the review of the boats, the members of the Military Forces detected changes in the structure of the two ships which led to infer the existence of a double bottom, a modality used by the organized armed groups for the trafficking of illicit drugs, seeking to pass unnoticed. For this reason, the boats were transferred to the Tumaco Coast Guard Station where, in coordination with officials of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office, confirmed the finding of 1,788 packages pressed with the drug.
During the operation, 1,680 gallons of fuel, communications and geolocation equipment were in the same way found.
