In relation to the events that occurred this morning, in rural area of Vistahermosa, Meta, the Command of the Brigade of Engineers of Humanitarian Demining informs:
1. Soldiers of the Humanitarian Demining Engineer Battalion No.4, who were on their way to carry out their manual demining tasks in the municipality of Costa Rica, in the aforementioned municipality, were attacked by means of the activation of explosive devices, apparently, by members of Organized Armed Groups that commit crimes in the area.
2. The terrorist attack occurred when military personnel who conduct humanitarian work were traveling in a vehicle to one of the areas of responsibility to conduct manual demining, and apparently, the explosives were activated on their way.
3. The demining personnel, due to the mission they carry out, do not carry weapons.
4. This criminal operation leaves 12 members of the Military Forces injured, who were given first aid care at the scene, and all operations were conducted to be evacuated them to a care center.
5. This terrorist attack not only damages the good physical condition of the mine clearance specialists who work to decontaminate the department of Meta, but in the same way the inhabitants who benefit from humanitarian demining, because they are at constant risk due to the presence of explosive devices.
6. The National Army condemns this act that violates human rights and international humanitarian law and will inform the relevant authorities, who in their investigative work will in the same way determine those responsible for this crime.
