The Colombian Navy, together with the National Army and in coordination with the National Police and the Attorney General's Office, carried out river search and control operations on the Atrato, Magdalena and Cauca rivers that resulted in the arrest of four individuals, the finding of more than five thousand coca bush seeds, more than 13 thousand gallons of fuel, a pistol, 50 pistol cartridges, about two kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride and three kilograms of coca paste base.
The first operation took place on the Atrato River on the Carmen del Darién sector, where units of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.16 in conjunction with troops of the National Army, found four seedbeds, which were being used by the Carlos Vázquez substructure of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, for the planting of illicit plantations. During the inspection, members of the Military Forces found 5,300 coca seeds valued at eight million pesos, which after complying with the established environmental protocols were destroyed.
Hours later, in the Atrato River, this time in the municipality of Quibdó, units of the Colombian Navy managed to find 3,100 gallons of fuel that were on board a wooden boat without having the documentation sought for the transport of this type of substances. According to naval intelligence information, this material would belong to the Heroes de Jesus Carretera Substructure of the Organized Armed Group, GAO Clan del Golfo and would be used for the production of coca base.
Subsequently, three individuals who were traveling on a boat, were arrested by troops of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.16 and of the Jungle Battalion No.54, for the crime of manufacturing or carrying narcotics after they were found by troops in possession of 1.9 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
Meanwhile, troops of Navy Battalion No.17 together with troops of the National Army, on the Magdalena River, in the municipality of San Pablo Bolívar, arrested in flagrante delicto an alleged member of the Clan del Golfo, who had a nine-millimeter caliber pistol, 50 cartridge and three kilograms of coca paste base.
