In 2022, fires in the Salamanca Island Natural Park have decreased by almost 80% compared to the last 5 years, thanks to the different protection strategies implemented by the authorities, including the Colombian Air Force, the National Police, the Sitio Nuevo Fire Department, the National Risk Management Unit and the staff of Natural National Parks, who have formed a coordinated teams that continue to work for the preservation of mangroves on Salamanca Island.
For this reason, during a work activity, both training and coordination work was carried out conducted by the helicopter crews of Air Combat Command No.3 and the members of the team of the Isla Salamanca National Natural Park, dealing with security issues of the different areas of entry to the park, the sectors where the largest number of fires are generated as well as the monitoring tasks to these areas, to prevent possible environmental damage to the mangrove.
The environment is one of the areas of greatest importance for the Colombian Air Force, which is why this coordination will continue to be carried out with the personnel of the different institutions responsible for its protection, to promote the preservation of it.
