The arrested man is charged with several crimes, including extortion and aggravated homicide.
In recent hours, in compliance with the Perseo Plan, troops of the Fifth Brigade of the National Army made the arrest of an individual known by the alias Omar, alleged member of the Northeastern War Front of the organized armed group (GAO) ELN.
The facts were reported in the Dos Bocas village, of the municipality of San Vicente de Chucurí, Santander, where the soldiers of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) and the Attorney General's Office found this individual who was wanted for the crimes of association to commit crimes, aggravated homicide, extortion, theft and carrying, manufacture and trafficking of weapons.
Alias Omar would have been in the organization for 10 years and, apparently, he would be one of those responsible for the murder of two social leaders that occurred in San Martín, in the department of Cesar, on February 23.
Within his criminal experience, he would have served as departmental logistics coordinator at the service of the National Urban War Front and terrorism support networks of the GAO ELN, recruiter of members for common criminality groups.
In the same way, he would have been part of the financial structure of the GAO ELN, carrying out illicit activities, such as theft of farm animals, selection of potential victims of extortion kidnappings and extortion against merchants, ranchers and palm growers in the departments of Santander, Cesar and Norte de Santander. Currently, he would be the liaison of the Northeastern War Front, in charge of the acquisition of war material and explosives for the Camilo Torres Restrepo Front, GAO ELN, which has its criminal activity in the department of Cesar.
With this arrest it was possible to weaken the financial control of the illegal armed structure, its ability to plan and execute criminal activities and neutralize its criminal operations in issues sucha as theft of farm animals and extortion. In the same way, the National Army continues to carry out military operations that contribute to provide tranquility to this productive region of the country.
