In an operation against transnational drug trafficking organizations, the Colombian Navy, in a coordinated work with the National Aeronautical Service - SENAN of Panama, ordered the finding of 2.2 tons of cocaine hydrochloride in the waters of the Caribbean Sea.
This important result was achieved thanks to the coordination of the Surface Operations of the Colombian Navy and the SENAN of Panama, which conducted in a maritime interception operation after detecting a go fast type boat, manned by four Colombians and a Panamanian, moving suspiciously with alleged illicit substances.
The individuals, realizing the work of the authorities, made evasive maneuvers and left several sacks in the sea. However, after several minutes of pursuit the boat was intercepted 40 nautical miles from Punta Coquera - Panama, and the sacks were recovered.
1,919 rectangular packages were found by troops, which, when put under Approved Preliminary Identification Tests, left positive result for 2,272 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
The five crew members of the boat were arrested and, together with the narcotics, were put into custody of the authorities in Panama.
The confiscation of the illicit drug, which would have left the Gulf of Urabá bound for the United States, represents losses exceeding 76 million dollars for the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo that is constant in its criminal links with multicrime organizations in different countries of the world. In the same way, within the framework of international cooperation, conducted by the Colombian and Panamanian authorities, the loss of human life was prevented by removing 5.6 million doses of cocaine of the illegal international market.
