The General Maritime Directorate (Dimar), as part of its permanent commitment to the care and protection of the sea environment, led and accompanied four beach cleaning activities along the Colombian Pacific Coast.
These activities, led by the Regional Port Authorities and the Pacific Oceanographic and Hydrographic Research Center (CCCP), led to the collection of about three tons of usable solid waste, which were stored independently and distributed to the environmental authorities of the jurisdictions for final disposal.
The Authority of the Port of Buenaventura launched the campaign Piangüita, Territorio Limpio y Unido, led by the Raza Porteña Foundation, the Palafito Foundation, the hotel productive groups and the community, which consisted of the collection of 1.5 tons of waste such as cans, plastic bottles, glasses, cigarette cases, among others, with the aim of having a clean and safe space for locals and tourists, as well as for the specimens that inhabit the ecosystem.
For its part, the Port Authority of Tumaco, joined efforts with the District Mayor's Office, the National Police and the hotel and tourism productive groups to clean the Morro beaches, as a contribution to the environmental certification process Bandera Azul or Blue Flag 200 meters of the beach. This is a world-leading eco-label that values the quality of bathing water, information, education and environmental management and safety, services and facilities.
The CCCP in the same way worked for the care and protection of the sea environment through the Bajito Sanador campaign, which carried out the cleaning of the Beaches of Bajito and Morro in Tumaco, at the same time it carried out awareness activities so that people appropriate their territory and take care of their ecosystem. This activity, led by the District Mayor's Office, was complemented by the Colombian Navy and the company Aguas de Tumaco.
At the same time, the Port Authority of Guapi, in coordination with the SENA (National learning service), the Manuel de Valverde School and the Colombian Navy, carried out a cleaning activity on the Obregones Bocana Beach, which led to the collection of more than 1 ton of plastic waste.
Thanks to the positive response and effort of the institutions and the people in general, it was possible to collect solid waste not typical of the coastal environment, which has a positive impact on the preservation of the Coastal Spaces of the Colombian Pacific, so the Maritime Authority will continue to lead and accompany this type of initiatives that in the same way lead to strengthening the sense of belonging of inhabitants and visitors, promoting responsible tourism in the region.
