In a coordinated operation conducted by the Colombian Navy and the Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing - ICBF, within the framework of the Humanitarian Mission Promesa Continua 2022, it was possible to provide an indigenous girl, from the department of Arauca, who had 30 percent of her body with burns, with specialized care on the Hospital Ship USNS Comfort.
With the clear objective of getting the girl to access the plastic surgery service that would led her to expand the movement of her limbs, the Naval Institution through the Navy Infantry River Battalion No. 52, in coordination with the Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing and the EasyFly Colombia flight agency, initiated the necessary steps with a high level of commitment, leading the girl and her mother to board the flight that took them to the capital city of the country.
In Bogotá, she was awaited by Colombian sailors who accompanied her to board a flight of the Naval Institution that led to her arrival in Cartagena, where under the protection of the Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing and accompanied by of the Commander of the Colombian Navy, Vice Admiral Francisco Hernando Cubides Granados, she was received by the Office of Indigenous Affairs of the Ministry of the Interior in order to guarantee all her rights, heading with great hope to the medical assistance point of the Ignacio Amador de la Peña Combat and Gymnastics Coliseum.
Upon arrival there, she was received by doctors of the USNS Comfort ship, who were waiting for her arrival to provide the necessary medical assistance, after conducting the requested examinations and an exhaustive medical assessment, she was approved for surgery aboard the United States hospital ship.
The crew of the ship received her and attended her with dedication. The procedure was a success, the intervened parties responded positively showing immediate improvement in the tension for the mobility of their limbs.
After the recovery, she said goodbye to her new partners with a huge smile, a gesture that characterizes her. The girl, who is under the protection of the Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing - ICBF, is recovering satisfactorily to return to her home municipality, Arauca.
Her joy will remain in the hearts of those who knew her, being a symbol of example, firmness and resilience in the face of adversity.
