As a result, six individuals died in the course of military operations and two more are in the judicial process of arrest. They would be directly responsible for the attack on the inhabitants of El Bordo, Patía, where a policeman was killed and two others injured.
Troops of the National Army, in an operation on the village of Quilcacé, rural area of El Tambo, Cauca, dismantle a group made up of eight members of the GAO-r Carlos Patiño. As a result of this military operation, six individuals died and two more are in the procedure of prosecution of the arrest, after the medical assistance was completed; one of them would have an arrest warrant in force.
According to military intelligence information, this group would in the same way have been responsible for attacking the police station of the municipality of Timbío with an explosive device, on December 20th. In addition, they would be the alleged perpetrators of the recent attack on the Military Forces in the village of Piedra Sentada in Patía, Cauca.
In the same way, this group was responsible for collecting money from extortion, armed proselytism and intimidation of civilians in the south of Cauca.
After this decisive blow, six rifles were found by troops, including two high-precision ones, five small firearms, 15 pistols, abundant ammunition of different caliber, military accessories and communications elects, propaganda alluding to this residual structure and 12 kilograms of coca base paste. All this material was put into custody of the authorities.
In the operation, which was made possible thanks to a joint, coordinated and inter-institutional work with the Colombian Air Force, National Police and Attorney General's Office, two soldiers who are recovering at an assistance center in Popayan were injured.
This result counteracts the criminal intentions of the residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, Carlos Patiño to expand in the south of the department of Cauca.
In addition, the criminal and financial operations of this armed group are significantly counteracted, as a result of the lack of illicit income obtained from drug trafficking. This year, the National Army troops have obtained the surrender of more than 50 of this GAO members.
