As a result of the emergency in Rosas, Cauca, the National Army transferred from Popayan about 1,000 doses that are part of the vaccination program for children under five and pregnant women.
More than 1,000 doses of vaccines necessary for the treatment of diseases such as hepatitis B, polio and influenza, among others, were transported by a crew made of aviator soldiers of the Mobility and Maneuver Battalion No.3, of the Third Division, who landed in the village of El Bordo, in Patía, Cauca, with the medical supplies that will be distributed in the southern municipalities of the department.
This support provided to the Departmental Health Secretariat leads to the comprehensive care of hundreds of children and pregnant women, since the doses are part of the Expanded Immunization Program, which had not been possible to be transported due to the landslides that are constant in the Pan American highway.
The vaccines for diseases such as hepatitis B, polio, influenza, rotavirus and pneumococcus will be distributed in the municipalities of Florencia, Sucre, Bolívar, Balboa, Mercaderes and Argelia, sectors isolated by the emergency on January 9 on the Pan-American Highway near Rosas, Cauca.
Similarly, soldiers of the High Mountain Battalion No.4, of the Twenty-Ninth Brigade, launch a security operation to distribute these medical supplies. This humanitarian operation complements the continuous accompaniment provided to people hit by the natural disaster, as well as the surveillance of the alternative routes arranged to connect the center with the south of the country.
Since the beginning of the emergency, more than 17 tons of humanitarian aid have been distributed, to help about 2,400 people with food, clothing, footwear, water and toilet kits.
The National Army, within the framework of the (It’s Me for You Cauca) Yo Por Ti Cauca strategy, will continue to work in coordination with other institutions to continue providing humanitarian assistance to the communities of the south of the department, in order to contribute to the preservation of security and comprehensive well-being.
