In a joint operation conducted by the Colombian Air Force and the National Army, coordinated with the National Police and interagency with the Attorney General's Office, a powerful blow was struck against the illicit extraction of mining deposits in the department of Nariño.
In the operation, eight excavators and three cummins-type engines that commit crimes such as illegal gold exploitation in rural areas of the municipalities of Magüí Payán and Roberto Payán were disabled; there, 16 illegal mining production units were intervened, which produced approximately nine kilograms of gold per month, equivalent to 2,430 million pesos.
This result against environmental crimes was possible thanks to the coordination and planning of the resources of the Military Forces, where through intelligence, surveillance and aerial and ground reconnaissance missions, the places where the illicit activity was being carried out were identified.
