In coordination with the National Disaster Risk Management System, the Embassy of Türkiye and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia efforts were organized to send personnel and trained dogs to provide international support.
Since the earthquake of 7.8 on the Richter scale hit Türkiye and Syria, the Colombian National Army prepared to send specialized personnel of the Engineer Brigade for Disaster and Prevention of disasters, in order to support this country in the catastrophe it is facing today.
This is how, since the first day, the necessary preparation have been organized so that a highly trained search and rescue team, and in an inter-institutional work with the National Police, Firefighters, Civil Defense and Red Cross, will travel this Sunday, February 12, 2023.
The National Army will send two pairs of dogs with the specialty of search and rescue, which have great experience, since they have participated in high-impact interventions, such as those at the Space Building, in Medellín, Antioquia; Mocoa, in Putumayo, and with Hurricane Iota, in San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.
These dogs have the necessary skill and dexterity to search for people in collapsed structures and so recover them; additionally, two officers will be part of this international humanitarian support group, one of them will be in charge of planning the response teams, and the second, is a veterinary doctor, who will have as a mission to ensure the health of the dogs.
The National Army once again shows its commitment and with its Resources serve to provide a helping hand to those who need it most.
