This narcotics production laboratory had been installed near a house in a rural area of this municipality. On average, soldiers of the Cauca Specific Command neutralize two of these structures in the department on a daily basis.
Military operations in southwestern Colombia against drug trafficking are continuous. In the course of military operations carried out by troops of the Cauca Specific Command, together with the National Police, a coca base paste production laboratory was dismantled in the village of El Mandarino, in the municipality of Buenos Aires, in the north of Cauca, which housed more than 800 kilograms of this narcotic.
This 10-square-meter laboratory had been installed near a house. The troops, through reconnaissance and search of the area, arrested two people, who would be responsible for the supervision and control of the structure in which the narcotic was being produced.
With this result, the loss to the finances of illegal Navy structures exceeds two billion pesos, which prevents the acquisition of war materiel, military and communications accessories used to perpetrate criminal operations against civilians and the Military Forces.
More than 200 gallons of fuels and other plastic elements used for the production of the drug were in the same way found at the site. The two people arrested and the material found were put into custody of the authorities for the respective prosecution.
In 2023, more than 17 tons of coca leaf and about seven more tons of coca in process were found by troops by the soldiers of this military unit mainly in the municipalities of Toribío, Corinto, Santander de Quilichao, El Tambo and Argelia.
Within the framework of the Ayacucho Plan, the National Army is constantly using all its resources to carry out decisive blows against drug trafficking, in order to weaken the illicit activities of these structures that aim to generate anxiety in this region of the country.
