More than 30 mines belonging to the GAO Clan del Golfo were seized by the authorities.
The Army and the National Police are working to find mining deposits belonging to the Jorge Iván Arboleda Garcés Substructure, of the organized armed group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, in the village of El Bagre, in the municipality of Caracolí, department of Antioquia.
During the military operation, two excavating machines were immobilized, and in the same operation, 15 engines, 70 dredgers and more than 110 motor pumps were seized, among other elements.
With this result, a loss is obtained to the finances of this Substructure, which according to the investigations invoiced approximately 1500 million pesos per month; it was in the same way possible to mitigate the deforestation of native trees and the pollution caused to the environment by chemical elements such as mercury and cyanide.
The National Army will continue to carry out joint and coordinated operations to control and reduce this problem in this region of the country.
