With this campaign, more than three thousand Afro-descendant and indigenous inhabitants of four communities of the San Juan Coast in the Colombian Pacific will benefit.
The Colombian Navy begins its campaign Sailing to the Heart of the Pacific - San Juan, which will take place from March 9 to 12, in the communities in the municipal territories Santa Genoveva de Docordó, the indigenous reserves of Buenavista and Puerto Pizario, as well as in the village Palestina, in the department of Chocó.
For this campaign, the Pacific Naval Force sent the ship ARC Bahía Colombia which transports more than 26 tons of humanitarian aid with feeding kits, toilet, kitchen, oral health, school supplies, meeting chairs, medicines and Bienestarina (food supplement), as well as a group of 37 professionals including doctors, dentists, psychologists and physiotherapists, who voluntarily complement this initiative to provide their services and knowledge.
The ship sailed this Wednesday, March 8th of the District of Buenaventura and will enter the San Juan River, to begin medical assistance and distribution of aid in the indigenous reserve of Buenavista on Thursday, March 9th; at the end of the day it will begin transit to the municipal territories of Santa Genoveva de Docordó to provide support to its inhabitants on Friday, March 10th; subsequently, health professionals will provide their services on Saturday, March 11th in the indigenous reserve of Puerto Pizario and will finish work on Sunday, March 12th in the village Palestina; returning again to the port of Buenaventura on Monday, March 13, where the closing ceremony of the campaign Navegando al Corazón del Pacífico - San Juan will take place.
This edition of Sailing to the Heart of the Pacific counts on the the participation of the Government of the Department of Chocó, the Mayor's Office of Litoral de San Juan, Corporation and Organization Minuto de Dios, Fundación Ángeles por Colombia, Foundation Cambiando el Mundo, Organization el Niño Dios si Existe, Colsubsidio drugstores and Totto Warehouses.
The San Juan River is one of the most important rivers in the Department of Chocó and the Colombian Pacific, in which the Colombian Navy carries out security operations, river control and protection of the communities settled in this region. This tributary originates in the Cerro de Caramanta in the department of Antioquia, crosses the departments of Risaralda, Chocó department and empties into the Pacific Ocean in the Litoral San Juan municipality on the borders of the Valle del Cauca department.
