Soldiers of the Brigade No.31 of the National Army, in coordination with the National Police, and thanks to intelligence work, established that a ship, coming from the department of Guaviare, would be transporting a substance with characteristics similar to marijuana.
The department of Vaupés has an extension of 54,135 kilometers of thick jungle, a situation that turns the water tributaries into main mobility roads for the more than 250 indigenous communities that inhabit this area of the country; these river ways are usually used by GAO for crime, and that is why troops of the Brigade No.31 are guarding them.
The platoon was carrying out control work on the Vaupés River, near Puerto Vaupés, in the municipality of Mitú, when it intercepted a boat traveling with three individuals, two men and one woman, who, according to intelligence information, had been sailing from Guaviare for several days.
As part of the territorial control that is exercised in the area, the National Army proceeded to thoroughly inspect the boat, because the nervousness of the occupants was evident; thus, they reported the finding of a substance with characteristics similar to marijuana, valued according to the authorities at more than 150,000,000 pesos. The substance would presumably be distributed in Mitú.
The individuals who were on board were put into custody of the authorities.
