Honor and Glory forever to the 9 soldiers killed by GAO Eln in Norte de Santander
The National Army deeply regrets to report the events that occurred in the department of Norte de Santander:
1. In the early morning of today, Wednesday, March 29, troops of the Special Energy and Road Battalion NO.10 (BAEEV10) that were carrying out tasks of institutional control of the territory in the rural area of the municipality of El Carmen, were attacked indiscriminately, according to the first information, with improvised explosive devices and rifle shots, by members of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, ELN, of the self-named Camilo Torres front.
The Special, Energy and Road Battalions are responsible for carrying out protection activities on the main travel axes, providing security to strategic, economic, energy and mining critical construction, among others, in the different regions of the country.
2. As a result of this terrorist operation, which flagrantly violates human rights and violates the international humanitarian law, nine of our military were killed and nine more were wounded.
3. Our officer and the eight wounded soldiers are being evacuated and will be assisted in specialized medical centers in the city of Cucuta.
4. The Institution deeply regrets the murder of our military and sends a heartfelt message of condolences to the families Corporal Brayan Alberto Gómez Gamboa, Corporal Juan Mateo Benavides Bohórquez, Soldier Jaime Manuel Redondo Uriana, Soldier Kevin Andrés Acevedo Osorio, Soldier Jhoan David Gómez Gélvez, Soldier Rafael David Fallece Jiménez, Soldier Herzel José Fernández Bonivento, Soldier José David Pushaina Epiayú, Soldier Fabio Epinayú Ipuana.
5. The protocols were activated through the Personnel Command to deploy a multidisciplinary team, in order to carry out an accompaniment to the families of our murdered military, as well as the assistance to the wounded personnel and their relatives.
6. Operations against this GAO are being carried out in the area at this time to protect the inhabitants, to support our troops and rule out the existence of more explosive devices that could generate damages.
7. Through the Tactical Unit, the corresponding denunciations will be filed with the authorities regarding this terrorist act, and at the same time, investigations will be carried out to determine what happened.
8. The Army Commander and members of the General Staff are traveling to the scene of the events to support the units, verify the situation and take the corresponding actions.
9. This Command sends a message of solidarity and condolences to the families of our men who gave their lives in the line of duty, and will spare no effort to support the recovery of our wounded personnel.
10. The institution rejects this criminal operation that mourns our military families, the institution in general and the country, and we continue to work with the absolute conviction of fulfilling our constitutional mission to protect and defend our fellow citizens, to continue contributing to their well-being and that of the regions.
