Units of the Colombian Navy provided support to three foreigners on a boat that were in emergency, when they were sailing 50 miles north of Bocas de Ceniza.
The alert call was made by the crew of the ship to the Maritime Traffic Control Station of the Colombian Maritime Authority, who were sailing in Colombian Caribbean waters aboard the Brazilian-flagged Catamaran named Oya on the Puerto Rico – Cartagena route, reporting the complex atmospheric conditions that put their navigation and their life at risk, requesting support for their evacuation.
Immediately, units of the Coast Guard and the Port Authority activated the Colombian Navy's search and rescue protocols in coordination with the Maritime General Directorate, with which they guided a ship that was in the area near the ship in emergency, providing guidance to report the rescue of people.
Once safe, near Bocas de Ceniza the rescued were handed over to the Coast Guard personnel, who later transferred them to a safe harbor, safeguarding their life. The Colombian Navy continues to work to safeguard life at sea and contribute to the safety and well-being of all the inhabitants of the Colombian Caribbean. In the same way, maritime people are invited to report any type of emergency to the Coast Guard line 146, available 24 hours a day.
