The presentation ceremony of this work was held at the Colón Theater in Bogotá, which exalts the courage and dedication of those women who helped forge the history of our country.
The event chaired by Major General Juan Carlos Correa Consuegra, Inspector General of the National Army, began by paying a heartfelt tribute to Lieutenant Julieth Girleza García Cordero, who gave her life in the line of duty.
Then, Major General David Leonardo Gómez Pulido, commander of the Fifth Division of the National Army, highlighted the role of women in the development of this work, and he said: “Women throughout history in this process of nation-state have been architects of the first order, but we in the same way have to recognize that work, and precisely this book has that purpose to give a face to those women who did so much for our country and we do not know them.”
In the same way, the Duet Colombia and the Army symphony group gave the musical touch to the night, to make way for soldier Danelly Berrío Ruiz, member of the first contingent of women soldiers of 2023, who presented the sixth chapter of the book, entitled Consolidation of the Republic.
In this book, which carries the stamp of Editorial Ejército, personalities of the cultural environment participated, such as Julián Vergara, master in plastic arts, sculptor and engraver, who narrated his experience in the creation of the book, “… from the meeting with my general Leonardo Gómez, we ended up giving body, life and face to a plastic work that ends up becoming in the same way an accumulation of relevant stories for the construction of this new Army, consolidated and much more inclusive in terms of gender.”
At the end of the event, the book Women of the Independence of Colombia, heroines of dignity, made by the Fifth Division, was distributed, and it will be at the Book Fair this year, for those who wish to know a little more about this work that dignifies the value and role of women.
