Yellow machinery used for the illicit extraction of mining sites that directly hit natural resources in the municipalities of Barbacoas and Magüi Payán of the department of Nariño, was destroyed in an operation by the Military Forces.
In a joint, coordinated and interagency work conducted by the Colombian Air Force, the National Army, the National Police and the Attorney General's Office, it was possible to find this mining complex in which approximately 9 kilograms of gold were produced, equivalent to 2,430 million pesos.
With the disablement of these three excavators, a loss valued at 900 million pesos was possible, in addition to the reduction of the environmental impact over approximately 100 hectares, where about 42 thousand trees were cut down and the water tributaries of the region where being contaminated. It is estimated that the recovery time of the environment of the site will take about 30 years.
