According to the latest report issued by the Colombian Geological Service, the activity level of Nevado del Ruiz, continues at the orange level, however, in recent days, the number of earthquakes has increased and therefore, the probability of an eruption during the next days or weeks, gets higher than those that have occurred in the last 10 years. The Colombian Air Force crews, conduct overflights constantly, in order to verify by air, the whole environment.
The current seismic activity is associated with the fracturing of rock and the movement of fluids inside the volcanic structure, which is reflected in the emission of ash, which is something that is worrisome and monitored by the Air Combat Command No. 4, in order to provide an overview of how volcanic activity is observed from. The FAC deployed on this occasion, a Bell-206 helicopter to the scene, where the crew on board, saw a column of gases with a smaller size than that which had been observed in previous days.
The Colonel Commander of the CACOM-4, highlights the importance of keep calm in this situation, precisely accepting the instructions of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management UNGRD and other local authorities, it has been also reported that: “It is seen that the level of activity of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano will remain at ORANGE LEVEL for several weeks. During this time, in case there is an acceleration of processes that suggest an imminent eruption or indeed the eruption occurs, the activity level will be changed to red.”
The Colombian Air Force continues to prepare aircraft, health personnel, rescuers, among other professional military personnel, ready to provide support in any emergency situation arising from this alert, ratifying its commitment to Colombians by providing protection of fundamental rights, such as the right to health and life.
