The Colombian Navy, the United States Navy together with 13 countries carried out the first training exercise in Cybersecurity, Cyberdefense and Cyberintelligence in a naval warfare environment, in Cartagena - Bolivar.
For the first time, in the history of this international operation, it was the Colombian Navy that planned, organized and carried out an exercise of this nature, seeking to strengthen strategic, tactical and operational resources around the knowledge of cyber threats that can occur in the different environments of naval warfare and the possibilities of countering these attacks on the systems of naval units in order to strengthen sovereignty in maritime, river, aerial and Ground spaces.
There were 15 participating countries including Brazil, Chile, South Korea, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Honduras, Jamaica, Panama, Peru, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States and Uruguay. They tested their knowledge by carrying out three types of exercises, a red team and blue team exercise (attack and defense) to a surface unit, where teamwork and technical resources of countries such as Brazil and Ecuador are highlighted. A technical and practical exercise in which each country competed to test their skills and obtain the best level of assistance to face the threat, showing good practices to mitigate it.
This important exercise strengthened decision-making at all levels of the command, in order to handle crisis situations, cyber attacks, system breaches, among others, in the face of possible risks to the reliability, physical fitness and availability of surface, submarine and air units for the fulfillment of the mission.
The effective coordination of cooperative security led to increased interoperability links at the level of Multinational Task Force for sea control with specific operations in cyber defense, thus improving Response resources of the participating Navies, in addition to strengthening interdisciplinary work, the exchange of information and continuous instruction.
