Through the installation of these semi-permanent modular metal structures, the Special Engineering Brigade will contribute to the mobility of the sector in crisis.
After the emergency took place on July 18, the National Army has been supporting the people in different aspects, in the first instance 81 units of the Engineer Brigade of Assistance and Prevention of Disasters moved to the area, in order to give support in the search and rescue of the victims, in addition to carrying out mud and debris removal work.
Due to the action that the main roads connecting the department of Cundinamarca and Meta were practically blocked by the avalanche, for this second stage of intervention, in coordination with the National Construction Agency, the National Highway Institute and the National Unit for Risk Management, a technical team was sent to the crisis area to survey the terrain and study the feasibility of installing the structures, which left a positive result.
That is why on July 20th, the movement began at the Military Fort of Tolemaida and from Valledupar to the municipality of Quetame, in Cundinamarca, with three cargo platforms, 7 double trucks, an excavator and an FTR with 2 semi-permanent modular metal structures type ACROW manufactured in the United States, the first structure is 54.86 m and the second is 67.10 m, one of them is already in the area and another is on its way.
The bridges will be installed on National Route 40 in the El Naranjal toll sector; 39 men will work on the installation of these structures, which have an estimated installation of July 31 for the first bridge and August 12 for the second.
