Flaca and Valkiria are two military women who are characterized by their tenacity and discipline, currently they are part of the aerobatic team Harpy 51, an emblematic group of the Air Combat Command No. 5, which only the best heavy helicopter aviators are a part of.
The International Aeronautics and Space Fair- Colombia 2023, was the environment in which pilots and crews of the Arpía 51 team of AH-60 helicopters of the Air Combat Command No.5 of the Colombian Aerospace Force, set a precedent of professionalism, skill and expertise that characterizes this select group.
The maneuvers and acrobatics that adorned and impressed the attendees of the F-AIR 2023 is the result of an arduous preparation of this team, which includes two women, Non-Commissioned Officers of the Institution, who for their persistence and professionalism today once again leave the best image of the role and importance of the military woman.
These are the Fourth Technician Nidia Hernández, call sing Flaca and Lorena Mora Valkiria from Boyacá and Bogotá respectively, women with completely different personalities, but with a single passion, the love of flying and achieving dreams.
The Non-Commissioned Officers throughout their military and academic career have been driven by their behavior in the specialty of Aeronautical Maintenance and flight corps since their admission to the Captain Andrés M. Díaz Non-Commissioned Officers School, in the Aeronautical Maintenance Technological Program, to today in their daily work in the structures and composite materials workshop of the CACOM 5 Technical Group; an environment in which, as they assure it, “it is the perfect place to learn all kinds of repair procedures or minor damages in the aircraft.”
In the same way, due to their virtuous military conditions and excellent work as artillery Flight Technician on the left side of the helicopter, they were selected to integrate the iconic acrobatic team of the House of Brave Falcons, where these brave military women have the mission of keeping the aircraft in optimal conditions for flight and foreseeing any risk during maneuvers, being the guardians of every movement of the pilots of the two helicopters that make up the Harpy team.
Since its beginning, this acrobatic team had been composed only of men and in 2023 the Colombian Aerospace Force, opened a new way for female military Flight Technician artillery, who become the first to proudly wear the yellow and black patch of the Arpía 51, an inspiration for the new generations of Non-Commissioned Officers of the Institution.
