The General Commander of the Military Forces, General Helder Fernan Giraldo Bonilla, ordered to increase military operations in the village of El Plateado, municipality of Argelia, Cauca, to face the terrorist operations of the FARC dissidents.
As part of the implementation of the Strategic Joint Campaign Plan Ayacucho, troops of the National Army with the support of aircraft of the Colombian Aerospace Force and the National Police, through joint and coordinated operation carried out operations in rural areas of the municipality of Argelia, in order to restore the rights and protect the inhabitants of the region.
The Carlos Patiño structure of the Residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, the so called Central General Staff of the FARC, is coercing civilians through the use of violence, threats and limitation of basic services in order to utilize the communities against the National Army and the institutions of the State.
Among the main actions these illegal groups have perpetrated in this vile strategy there are the limitation of communications to the inhabitants, the loss of electricity and the installation of improvised explosive devices around municipalities and rural areas, thus threatening the proper and normal development of the daily life of these communities.
This reprehensible coercion of these criminal groups seeks to destabilize the regions by forcing the inhabitants to sedition against the Military Forces and put at risk the fundamental rights of the inhabitants of the region.
Saturday afternoon, August 26, 2023, members of the Carlos Patiño Front threatened the civilians of the village El Plateado to leave their homes and go to the municipal coliseum in order to force them to make false denunciations against the Military Forces, which, on the contrary, have been governed by respect for human rights and compliance with international humanitarian law in the framework of this military operation.
