The material was hidden in a wooded area, in the sector known as Múcuras.
In an inter-institutional operation conducted by the National Army and the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office, it was possible to find and neutralize more than three tons of Anfo-type explosives in the rural area of Cúcuta, in the department of Norte de Santander.
Thanks to the information provided by the military intelligence, the soldiers arrived in the area known as Múcuras, where this illegal hiding place was found. Several sacks containing approximately 70 kilos of explosives each were found by troops at this place.
Apparently members of the Residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, Structure 33 intended to use these explosives in attacks against civilians and members of the Military Forces, in order to generate fear and anxiety in the community.
The finding of this illegal hideout of explosives is one of the largest discovered in the last five years. The material was destroyed in controlled conditions on site by explosives handling specialists.
