In the rural area of the municipality of López de Micay, Cauca, a joint, coordinated and interagency operation was carried out against the illicit exploitation of mining deposits.
The Colombian Aerospace Force, the Colombian National Army, the National Police and the Attorney General's Office, reported the finding and intervention of three mining production units in which approximately 9 kilograms of gold were extracted monthly; those units would cost more than 2 billion pesos.
Three excavators were disabled at the site, and the use of 130 kilograms of mercury that would be used in one year of operation was prevented, which would be a potential contaminant of water tributaries.
In the same way, with this result, the deforestation of approximately 360 hectares of forests and jungles is prevented.
This operation complements the operations that the Military Forces have carried out in the southwest of the country, with the aim of protecting natural resources and stopping the criminal operations of these groups outlaw.
