With 11.5 tons of humanitarian aid, two C-40 and C-295 aircraft of the Colombian Aerospace Force arrived at the islands of San Andrés and Providencia, as part of the preparedness and prevention for potential emergencies that may arise during the hurricane season, “it is concluded that the alert has come to an end; however, there may be some rain in the Archipelago,” said Joseph Martínez, Coordinator of the Departmental Disaster Risk Management Secretariat.
In response to the call of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management-UNGRD, the cargo made of essential elements, such as blankets, mats, feeding kits, tents with capacity for six people and other essential and basic resources, arrived yesterday evening, as a preventive measure in case it is necessary for the coming days.
After the arrival of the aircraft of the Military Transport Air Command-CATAM, UNGRD officials, along with personnel of the Caribbean Air Group and the Official San Andrés Fire Department, received the humanitarian aid, which was then transported and stored at the facilities of the latter institution.
As part of this preventive operation, the Aerospace Force joined the effort coordinated with the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, to bring humanitarian aid to the areas in case of emergencies, prioritizing the commitment to the well-being of the islanders.
