Alias Mula has participated in attacks against the Military Forces for more than 10 years.
In the framework of stability operations within the framework of the Ayacucho Plan, troops of the Eighteenth Brigade and the Quirón Task Force, in an inter-institutional manner with the Attorney General's Office, arrested alias Mula, an active member of the Martha Elena Barón group, of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, ELN.
According to military intelligence information, the individual has an experience of more than 10 years in this criminal structure, and is responsible for numerous attacks against the Military Forces through the use of improvised explosive devices and as a sniper.
In the arrest carried out in the village of Malvinas, municipality of Tame, abundant war material and communication equipment were found by troops. Among the confiscated arsenal were found by troops a Taurus 9-millimeter pistol, a high-precision rifle, a shotgun, various ammunition of different calibers, magazines, handcuffs and communications equipment, elements that would be used to carry out criminal operations in the region against civilians and Military Forces, violating human rights and international humanitarian law.
This arrest and seizure of the war material represents a significant blow to the structure of the GAO ELN in the region, damaging its ability to plan and execute terrorist plans against our men and the community. In addition, with this result, their logistical capacity is weakened and the flow of resources derived from extortion is interrupted.
Colombian National Army will continue to work hard to promote the security and well-being of all the inhabitants of this region. Our commitment is firm and we will not rest the work for the peace and tranquility of the people in Arauca and, in general, the Colombians.
