Arrests of men of the Clan del Golfo, surrenders to justice of organized armed groups members and finding of an illegal hiding place are part of the most recent results of the Fifth Brigade of Colombian National Army.
In recent weeks, the soldiers of the Fifth Brigade of Colombian National Army have made important results in terms of losses against armed and common crime groups, which have resulted in strengthening and increasing the perception of security, mainly in Santander, Magdalena Medio and south of the department of Cesar, in a coordinated work with the National Police and the Attorney General's Office.
Against the GAO Clan del Golfo, the decisive operations reported to leave the surrender to justice of one of its members and the arrest of three alleged members of the Edgar Madrid Benjumea Substructure, in the villages of San Rafael de Lebrija and El Llanito, in Santander, who had with them three short-range firearms with ammunition; these individuals would be in charge of intimidating the productive groups of merchants, transporters and ranchers, with the collection of money from extortion, mainly in Puerto Wilches, Rionegro and Barrancabermeja; in the same way, it was possible to find an illegal hiding place where more than 1100 7.62 mm cartridges, four metal rifle magazines, black powder, security cord, staples and a battery for the production of explosive devices were found by troops, in the municipality of Gamarra, Cesar; with this operations it is possible to neutralize possible terrorist operations.
Similarly, troops of the Fifth Brigade of Colombian National Army, in coordination with the Police, arrested alias José or El Brujo, included in the cartel of the most wanted by the Magdalena Police, who was prosecuted for the crime of association to commit crimes. This individual was a member of the Clan del Golfo, with interference acts in the northern and central area of the department of Magdalena; he served as an information point, logistical coordinator and was the right-hand of alias Quilla, chief of hitmen of this armed group in that area.
In addition to the above, in a quick reaction by troops of this military unit, in coordination with the National Police, in the Pozo Nutria village of San Vicente de Chucurí, they arrested two alleged hitmen, who according to people's versions committed a homicide last Monday, November 13; these men had with them a short-range firearm with cartridges.
Finally, it was possible for three members of a residual organized armed group to surrender to justice, and as for common crime, 13 arrests were reported, 6 more of organized criminal groups and the discovery of 8 short-range firearms, 134 ammunition, 186 gallons of fuel and 5 vehicles; 7 heads of livestock were in the same way recovered and 500 kilograms of meat were confiscated.
In compliance with the Ayacucho Plan, with these results, the Fifth Brigade of Colombian National Army continues to conduct military operations within the framework of operational synergy, aimed at protecting people and preserving security conditions in the territories, working for their tranquility and peace.
