Within the framework of two joint operations in the Colombian Caribbean, it was possible to consolidate this significant loss to transnational crime and terrorist organizations.
More than 120 hours of effort of the military operation were required as well as the participation of Surface, Naval and Coast Guard units.
Seven detainees of different nationalities were put into custody of the authorities for the crime of trafficking, manufacturing or carrying narcotics.
The combination and coordination of resources conducted by the Colombian Navy, the Colombian Aerospace Force and countries of the region made it possible to confiscate 5,439 kilograms of Cocaine hydrochloride that were transported in Go Fast type boats by transnational crime organizations, which were destined for Central America.
The Frigate ARC Almirante Padilla, the Ocean Patrol Ship ARC 24 de Julio, a Unit-type aircraft, Coast Guard Rapid Reaction Units of the Colombian Navy, an aircraft of the Colombian Aerospace Force and an aircraft of the Joint Interagency Task Force of the South - JIATFS, in the waters of the western Caribbean Sea, carried out a maritime interception operation on a Go Fast type ship in which four Colombians and a Honduran were transporting 161 bags with alleged illicit substance inside.
In compliance with the established procedures, the Coast Guard Rapid Reaction Unit secured the personnel and the confiscated items, however, due to adverse weather conditions the ship sank in the area. Subsequently, they were taken to Cartagena to continue the prosecution where they will be prosecuted for the crime of trafficking, manufacturing or carrying narcotics when it was found that they were transporting 4,049 kilograms of Cocaine Hydrochloride.
Hours earlier, two Colombians in the Northern Caribbean were planning to transport 1,390 kilograms of Cocaine Hydrochloride contained in 50 bags to Central American countries aboard a Go Fast type ship; an action that was prevented thanks to the efficiency, unity and interoperability of the units, including Surface units, Coast Guards, Colombian Navy Aircraft and a Colombian Aerospace Force aircraft that monitored this boat until the interception.
After carrying out the rigorous checks, it was possible to verify that the two individuals were carrying the illicit elements. So they were taken to the Coast Guard Station of San Andrés Isla to conduct the urgent acts together with the authorities, who when conducting the Approved Preliminary Identification Test, left positive result for Cocaine Hydrochloride.
This seizure represents a powerful blow on the logistical and financial resources of drug trafficking organizations that intend to use the Colombian Caribbean as a route for trafficking illicit substances to international markets.
More than 250 million dollars that stop entering these transnational crime organizations that with their criminal acts intend to negatively affect the inhabitants and the Military Forces with terrorist acts.
