A reward of up to USD$86,000 for information leading to the capture of the responsible for the environmental crime in La Macarena
After the end of a Security Council, the Minister of National Defense, Holmes Trujillo, announced that the reward of up to USD$86,000 will be increased for information that led to capture those responsible for the murder of Javier Francisco Parra Cubillos this Thursday, who was the Regional Coordinator of the Corporación para el Desarrollo Sostenible del Área Manejo Especial La Macarena (Corporation for Sustainable Development of the Special Management Area La Macarena) –Cormacarena–.
In statements to the media, Minister Trujillo, emphatically rejected the heinous crime and stated that the criminals murdered a true leader of the countryside, the environment and the biodiversity of this land. "The government's priority still being the fight against drug trafficking and the control of deforestation. Drug trafficking is the main enemy of Colombians and the country; drug trafficking feeds criminal organizations, which commit massacres and murder social leaders.”
"We are going to pursue these criminals wherever they are. We want to tell these criminals that they will fall, because the State exists to defend life, and fight those who live from death, violence and crime”.
"Criminality never wins the battle over the State and the State is always accompanied by good citizens, who often remain silent out of fear, because of the threats they have to suffer in the areas where they live, particularly if they are in rural areas. But when the State arrives, when the projects are advanced and when people have access to sustainable and profitable projects, legality and institutionalism are imposed, and that is the battle of the President Duque, who will not rest so we could live and work in peace", said the Minister.
In that sense, within the conclusions of the Security Council, the head of the Ministry of Defense reported that the Meta sectional Prosecutor’s Office had specialized prosecutors from the Specialized Unit Against Homicide, as well as a mixed criminal investigation team of the Technical Investigation Corps and the Sijín of the National Police.
In the same way, instructions were given for the sectional Prosecutor's Office and the Judicial Police, to verify the information and receive the denunciations of the Ombudsman's Office about the alleged threats, of which the persons who provided assistance and helped Mr. Parra Cubillos, once the crime occurred, were victims.
In addition, the Minister Trujillo reported that the deputy director of the Police will lead an Intelligence and Judicial Police Command, for the execution of operations that led to the capture of the deforesters of the Colombian Amazon. He also said that the National Army will strengthen the security of the Parque Natural Caño Cristales, through the deployment of two platoons, comprised of 60 men and military patrols that will carry out controls in the urban perimeter of the municipality of La Macarena.
Finally, the Minister of Defense stated that six more military units will reinforce the National Police Station in La Macarena, for the permanent coordinated accompaniment in the environmental activities of the Military Forces.
